How To Preserve Raw Juice

An 8 ounce empty plastic bottle

We want you to get the most out of your raw aloe vera and other raw juices. Unlike shelf stable juices that are pasteurized and filled with preservatives, Stockton Aloe #1 brand has nothing done to it to extend the shelf life, except freezing.

Perishable products tend to be much better for you… and more expensive. It is a shame to see such good products spoil. For that reason, PLEASE read this brief document to know how to preserve your Fresh Frozen 100% Pure Raw Aloe Vera Gel. You can apply these same principles to any raw juice.

Most juice products leave our warehouse frozen. We put bottles in styrofoam to delay thawing. Sometimes your gel will be delivered mostly thawed… it should, however, be quite cold. Once your gel is thawed, it will remain quite beneficial for 7 to 10 days. After 7 to 10 days, you will notice a taste change. This is due to fermentation. That is, naturally occurring bacteria will increase in numbers. This is the same process that turns grape juice into wine and cabbage into sauerkraut.

When things ferment, you exchange one benefit for another. That is, the fermented product becomes more of a probiotic and less of what it used to be. That is because the probiotic bacteria consume the food to increase their numbers. In some cases, you end up with a more preferred product (wine, sauerkraut, kefir, etc.). When aloe vera ferments, this is NOT the case! Most connoisseurs will agree fermented fizzy aloe tastes horrible!

If you don’t plan on drinking within 1 week…

If you don’t plan on using your thawed aloe vera within 1 week, there is nothing wrong with re-freezing it. That is, pour it into smaller containers and put them back into the freezer. Make sure you leave a little room at the top for your gel to expand when it freezes. Pouring 7 ounces into an 8 ounce container works well. You should do this sooner rather than later. That is, if you leave your gel in the refrigerator for a few days prior to pouring it into smaller containers, you have used up some of your 7 to 10 days… shortening the life of your juice after the next thawing.

We usually include a small empty bottle with instructions for new customers. But you will likely need more than one.

Within how many days do you ship to Hungary?

If you see shipping options available to Hungary, we will ship on the first Monday following your order. If you order early enough EST on a Monday, we will ship that day.

Just got my shipment.. May I freeze in glass mason jars? Why is freezing in a mason jar discouraged?

Many over the years claiming to be canning and jarring freezing and food storage experts came back to us and said they should have followed our advice because their glass shattered when freezing aloe vera. Some have been successful, but it seems aloe vera expands and breaks glass more than other liquids.

I’m new to all of this and like Franzy above I’d like to freeze in glass containers. I have mason jars at home and I was reading about he canning lids etc. and am completely at loss now. Can I reuse mason jar dome lids for freezing or do I need to get the canning lids and get a new lid for every time I reuse the glass jar to keep the contents of the juice safe? Thank you in advance for your advice!

We recommend BPA free plastic for freezing Aloe vera.

Hi there, since the aloe needs to be in a thawed state (if you want) to separate into freezer storing containers, will the thawing then refreezing process effect the efficiency/lose any goodness of the aloe? Im just wondering since it’s not a good practice for some foods/items. Thanks in advance 🙂

It’s not the thawing / refreezing process that degrades the aloe, but the duration it is thawed, where microbiology increases, and hence, nutrients decrease. For that reason we recommend thawing and refreezing quickly.

I’ve read that it is very bad to freeze things in plastic. Am I able to request a glass container?

Getting your half gallon in glass would cost about $10.00 more due to the cost of the container and the additional shipping weight. Also, when it is frozen, it is fragile, so we can not be responsible for replacing it if it arrives broken. Did you want it shipped or were you planning on picking it up at our location?

I’m wondering how I can pour it into small bottles when if it arrives frozen. (Wouldn’t it be better if the mouth of your jars were wide so it could be scooped out if needed?

If it does not thaw during shipping, leaving it out for a couple hours should do it… then you can pour it into smaller containers for re-freezing.
